The search for purpose is one of the deepest longings of the human heart. Christians often speak of finding their "calling," but what does that mean?

Your Primary Calling

Every Christian shares a primary calling: to know God, love Him, and be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). Your first purpose is to glorify God in everything (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Your Unique Design

Ephesians 2:10 says we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God hath before ordained. You are custom-made for specific contributions to God's kingdom.

How to Discern Your Calling

Examine your gifts and talents. What do you do well? What do others affirm in you? Pay attention to your passions. What burdens you? What excites you? Psalm 37:4 says God gives us the desires of our heart as we delight in Him. Consider your experiences. Even painful experiences can be redeemed (2 Corinthians 1:4). Seek confirmation from community. Ask trusted friends and leaders what they see in you. Take faithful steps. God guides moving feet more easily than stationary ones.
